Kennewick Washington Recreational Fishing
February 2nd, 2007
The Kennewick Wa Real Estate area collected data about recreational fisher’s willingness to pay for angling opportunities at the Lower Snake River reservoir. Conducted from May to October in 1997, survey data was collected to identify the sportfishing demand in the region.
Demand and spending surveys collected information from anglers across the four Lower Snake River reservoirs. The data also provided information on the types of fish caught during the survey period, total catches, modes of transport, lodging details, and information about other outdoor recreational activities.
The results showed that for every 1, 000 anglers accessing the reservoirs that nearby towns collected fuel revenues of about $8, 900. Almost 85 of the townships in the Kennewick Wa Real Estate area had anglers visiting the reservoirs. Spending by anglers was done prior to the trip in preparation, whilst at the fishing site, and for the return trip home.
Of the 576 responses to the surveys, about 25.7% (148 visitors) lived within a 10 mile radius of the Lower Snake River reservoirs. Another 14.6% (84 visitors) lived within a 20 mile radius. Hence, over two thirds of the sportsfishing patrons lived within 50 miles of the reservoirs.
Clearly, sportsfishing is a progressive industry in the Kennewick Wa Real Estate area; providing opportunities for the astute small business operator, as well as the recreational fisherperson. The research was funded by the Department of the Army, Corps of Engineers.
