Mike Hogue Branches Out With New Winery

PROSSER - His name won’t be on the label, but Mike Hogue’s reputation and experience will more than fill the bottles after the first crush at his new winery, Mercer Estates. Real Estate Blog
Land is already being leveled at the nine-acre site just east of Kestrel Vintners in the Prosser Wine and Food Park, and construction on the $2 million, 16,500-square-foot production facility is expected to be complete in time for crush. The project’s second phase, a separate building that will house the tasting room and barrel room, is expected to open in 2008.
Mike Hogue started Hogue Cellars, one of the most recognizable wineries in the state, in 1981. Twenty years later, he sold the 400,000-case-a-year operation to a Canadian wine conglomerate, Vincor, and signed a five-year, no compete clause in a $36.4 million deal.
