The celebration of the 200th anniversary of the Lewis and Clark Expedition is being finalized in Richland area, the festive event having started in 2003. Funding has led to the coordination of local assistance to enable numerous bicentennial projects to be held. These have included the Confluence Project, the Sacagawea Heritage Trail, as well as the refurbishment of the Sacagawea State Park Interpretive Center. It is anticipated that these legacy exhibitions will provide the public with historical interpretation, education and an awesome leisure experience for many years.

The Lewis and Clark Interpretative Overlook can be visited by way of the intersection of Columbia Center Blvd. and Columbia Park Trail, looking over the Columbia River with a view of Batemen Island. The concrete plaza has a pergola and two interpretive panels as well as a map depicting the Lewis and Clark Trail. A stone wall, manicured landscape and ADA accessible link to the Sacagawea Heritage Trail complete the scene.

The 16th Annual Washington Heritage Conference was held in the Richland Real Estate area in October of 2003. The Theme was “Lewis and Clark: Tools for Planning, Partnerships, and Opportunities”.  Patrons to the conference were able to share ideas as leaders, volunteers and experts in the heritage community, networking and learning from each other.
